What To Cook With Ground Beef

Ground beef is loaded with flavour and can be used to make a large variety of dishes. This includes hamburgers, meat loaf, casseroles, patties, pastas, and cabbage rolls to name a few. Buy ground beef that has a little amount of fat. As with all other cuts of meat, fat adds flavour. If you prefer totally lean meat then makes sure that you add lots of flavour while cooking, and avoid overcooking the meat. Ground beef takes less time compared to other meats. Thaw the ground beef well before cooking. Either defrost it for a while in the freezer, or leave it in the refrigerator overnight.

The important thing to remember while cooking ground beef is to ensure that you add spices and flavourings at the beginning, and use a spatula to break the larger pieces to ensure even cooking. Drain any excess fat after browning, and do not overcook it. Avoid adding water, and let the beef cook in its own fat. If making a curry, you can always add more liquid later.

To make ground beef and rice casserole, add chopped onions in a hot skillet along with ground beef. Add salt and pepper and other spices to your skillet and brown the meat. Once the meat is browned add tomato sauce, converted rice and a little boiling water. Stir and add to a baking dish. Cover with grated cheese. Keep in the fridge for a few minutes to help the patties firm up. The hamburger can then be grilled on a barbeque or baked in the oven till done. Serve on buns with a slice of cheese, onions, and tomato.

To add ground beef to pastas, brown ground beef with onion and garlic and add to sautéed vegetables, sauce and boiled pasta. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on top.
