The best way to grill chicken depends on whether you are grilling whole chicken, chicken breast or chicken thighs. Though it is not necessary to marinate chicken, if you do, it adds flavour to the meat and takes less time to cook. Keeping the skin intact while grilling, results in a crispy outside and tender meat inside.

Whatever your choice of meat may be, make sure you cook the chicken on medium heat to avoid burning the meat. Always have a spray bottle of water handy in case of flare ups.

Chicken can be grilled using direct or indirect heat. When using indirect heat turn the side burners on and turn the middle burner off and place the chicken on it. Though the chicken takes longer to cook on indirect heat, it is more succulent and flavourful. Baste the chicken with the marinade or barbeque sauce while cooking.

Grilling chicken in the rotisserie is another excellent to make good chicken. Place a piece of foil beneath the chicken to collect the dripping fat. This method might take the longest but the taste makes it well worth the wait.

If you want to grill spicy chicken, marinade the meat (preferably boneless) in yogurt, ginger, garlic, chilli powder, cumin powder, pepper and a little lemon juice. To grill whole chicken, grill the chicken on each side for thirty minutes till done. Make sure the chicken is cooked by checking the thickest part of the meat. If you are using chicken pieces, grill for a total of thirty minutes, making sure to turn after regular intervals. To check for doneness, check with a digital meat thermometer. Cooked chicken has an internal temperature of 170°F.

Chicken has to be cooked well before eating. Raw chicken may contain harmful bacteria that are unsafe for you. Also make sure that you do not cross contaminate other foods when cooking chicken.
