All people regardless of gender face the threat of heart disease. But study shows that women have higher risk of acquiring heart disease. In fact, there are more cases of women dying from heart disease than men. There are also some symptoms of heart disease that only women can experience and so the challenge for women is to learn how to differentiate them and also learn to take proper steps whenever symptoms are arising.
Women are more apt to have symptoms not related to chest pains and that includes: Nausea and vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, cold sweat and neck, shoulder and back discomforts. Men are more prone to chest pain so it’s kind of easy to tell whether men have health problems if they experience the symptom.
One of the risk factors that contribute to heart disease is depression. Study shows that women are most likely to be depressed than men and this greatly affects the risk of heart diseases compared to those who aren’t depressed. Depression changes your lifestyle and may also cause you to act recklessly most of the time. So it’s important to consult your doctor if you’re having this kind of symptom to avoid having more health problems.
The narrowing and the blockage of the arteries is the most known risk factor. Although both men and women experience this, women are more prone to this kind of events. Particularly, there are several reasons why women are more prone to the narrowing and blockage of their arteries. Some of them include:
i) After menopause, there is low levels of estrogen which causes a great threat on developing heart diseases
ii) Women are also more prone to heart disease due to smoking than men.
iii) Fats around your abdomen, high blood pressure, high sugar levels have more bad blows on women than men.
The loss of a particular hormone called estrogen poses a great danger in developing heart disease especially after menopause. It is mostly contributed to:
i) Low levels of estrogen affect the walls of the blood vessels that make it more liable to blood clots.
ii) It also increases fibrinogen levels which are partly responsible for clotting. Blood clots are mostly related to stroke and the narrowing of the walls of the blood vessels.
iii) It also affects the level of fats in the body. Researches showed that bad cholesterol increases in this situation and good cholesterol increases putting more threat to different heart diseases.
So we see here the importance of seeking medical attention. Changing your daily routines and lifestyle also greatly affects your health. Quit smoking and quit eating oily foods, that way women are gradually decreasing their risks of developing heart disease.
