Petechiae is the small pin sized red dots on the surface of the skin, it looks like freckles but instead of black dots it is a red dots. Petechia is red in color because it contains blood that has leaked out from the blood vessels into the skin.
Petechiae is usually caused by a low platelet count in the body. Platelets are blood cells that help with the blood clotting. However, when petechiae in children occurs, it maybe dangerous as it usually a significant symptoms to a deadly illness. It can be a sign for meningococcemia, leukemia and low blood platelets count.
