When someone stand for too long for a certain time, their feet and legs are seen swollen. For some people, it causes a great pain for them that they sometimes unable to walk and tend to rest by sitting for sometime. So what are the causes of swollen feet and legs? Swollen feet occur when there is an excessive fluid in the muscles in the feet. When swelling occurs, it can lead to a rapid increase of weight for a short period of time. The swelling will occur more often in a warm temperature, therefore if you always experience feet and legs swelling you will realize that it occurs more often in a warm summer days.

Swelling can be caused by a serious medical condition of the blood vessels, the kidney, heart and also the liver. It is also caused by poor diet, consuming too much salt and carbohydrate.
One of the most common for the swelling of feet and legs are blood circulation. Normal blood circulation starts from the heart into smaller arteries and tiny little capillaries. Oxygen is removed from the blood in the capillaries and then the used blood flows veins to the lungs for another load of oxygen. If the blood circulation is slower than normal it is hard for blood to move back up to the heart from your feet. The blood containing metabolic waste may stay in some areas of the feet around the muscles area. When the fluid become excessive, this situation will cause swollen feet.
The swelling however, can also be caused by certain medications, including high-estrogen birth control pills, certain antidepressants, steroids and some health supplement such as calcium pills. In the worse case scenario, swelling of the legs may be the sign of a more serious health conditions, such as heart, kidney, liver failure or even diabetes.
