Diabetes is a condition in which there is a high glucose level in the blood and is a disease condition. In this condition, the person has to try to reduce the glucose level in the blood. Hypoglycemia is the exact opposite condition of diabetes where there is hyperglycemia. Though Hypoglycemia is a very dangerous condition, it may not always be a disease condition. This is because the person who is seemingly normal may also have hypoglycemia under certain circumstances. People with diabetes are more at risk for getting hypoglycemia, mainly because of the medications that they take to control the hyperglycemia. The most important and common cause of hypoglycemia is the medications that people affected by diabetes take. The increased dosage of these medications can cause the person to have a sudden drop in the glucose levels of the blood. This in turn can cause hypoglycemia in the person which causes symptoms like fainting and increased sweating. If the person does not take immediate steps to control this hypoglycemia, then the person can even go into a state of coma.
The other cause of hypoglycemia can be decreased intake of food. A person may not have eaten food for some time and when the person has the decrease in the glucose levels of the blood due to the decreased consumption of food, then the person can also go into a state of hypoglycemia. This is not as common as the hypoglycemia caused by medications, but it still could be dangerous. This is the reason that it is emphasized that breakfast should be consumed every day. This can prevent people from getting hypoglycemia.
Another important cause for people to get hypoglycemia is the excess physical exercise or stress that they undergo. There are people who are overworked under very hot conditions. This can make the person lose a lot of energy from the body. The glucose level in the blood also decreases as a result of the excessive exercise. This too can result in the person getting hypoglycemic. This is because glucose is spent when the person does strenuous exercise. If there is no adequate replenishment of the essential glucose in the body, then the person can have a gradual loss of glucose in the blood leading to a state of hypoglycemia. This can be prevented by consuming adequate glucose rich fluids under extreme heat conditions.
