How Long Do I Bake Pork Chops

The time required to bake pork chops depends on the size of pork chops. Usually it takes about thirty minutes to thirty five minutes to bake pork chops at 400 to 425°F.

For baking pork chops you need the following:

Baking or cookie sheet
Pork chops (2 per person)
Cooking spray to lightly coat the pan
Seasonings, salt and pepper and herbs of your choice
A pair of tongs to flip the meat

You can either buy boneless or pork chops with bones. Ask the butcher to trim the excess fat if desired. A little amount of fat is good for flavour; meat devoid of fat tends to make the meat dry.

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Marinate the pork chops with a dry mix or herbs of your choice. Spray baking sheet with cooking spray lightly. Place the pork chops in the baking sheet. Shake off the excess marinade first.

Bake pork chops for 30-35 minutes till golden brown on both sides. When done, take the meat out of the oven and let it rest for five minutes or so, to let the juices rest.

To make pork chops with onions place water in pan, add chopped onions, and add pork chops on top of the onions. Season the pork chops on both sides first. Add more water and cover the pork chops. Bake at 450°F for one hour. This method yields succulent pork chops. Take out the pork chops and add barbeque sauce over the meat. If you want to brown the meat further, place it under the broiler for three to five minutes.

Pork chops can also be cooked in a skillet. Add oil in the skillet and cook the pork chops on medium to high heat. Make sure you season the pork chops on both sides with salt and pepper. For thin chops, cooking for six to eight minutes should be sufficient. Serve with a sauce of your choice.

When handling meat, be careful not to cross contaminate other foods. If possible, handle the meat with gloves, while seasoning. Otherwise, wash your hands and cutting board well. It is always advisable to thaw your meat in the refrigerator and not leave it outside for too long.
