How Do You Cook Hamburgers In The Oven

Hamburgers are best cooked on a grill but if required can be broiled in an oven. The trick is to use beef with a little fat in it so that the burgers remain moist and do not dry out after cooking. One pound of ground beef makes generally eight patties. Season the meat well and flavour it with spices and herbs of your choice. The ingredients for a basic hamburger are as follows:

Ground beef
Salt
Pepper
Egg
Garlic or onion powder
Bread crumbs or flour
Tomato Ketchup
Fresh or dried herbs of your choice (like parsley, thyme).

Mix all the ingredients together, and make round, flat patties which is less than an inch thick. Use a wooden spoon or a Pattie Press to make perfectly shaped patties. Keep the patties on a sheet and put it in the fridge for sometime to ensure that the patties do not break while cooking.

Turn the oven on to the broiler position, or heat it to 350°F. It takes about 35-40 minutes to cook hamburgers in the oven. When the oven is heated, place the patties in the oven. Cook on each side till brown. Adding a gravy or sauce on top while cooking keeps the hamburger moist and prevents from drying out.

A tip to making extra sumptuous burgers is to fold some soft cheese like goat cheese or mozzarella in the middle of the burgers. When it cooks in the oven, the cheese melts and the combination of a crispy outside and cheesy centre adds extra flavour to the burger. Sauces like barbeque sauce can also be used to baste the burgers while cooking.

Burgers are usually served on buns, with several garnishes and sauces. Hamburgers can be served with a salad and soup or with healthy greens. The condiments can include mayonnaise, cole slaw, tomato and cheese slices, lettuce, mustard hot peppers, and plain old ketchup.

Burgers can also be made with other lean meats of your choice like ground chicken or turkey or even with salmon. Leaner meats and fish are bland compared to red meat and thus it is important to add more flavour to the burgers while cooking. Marinating the meat before cooking helps it absorb more flavour and also helps tenderize it.
